President of National Assembly Closes Ceremony of the 11th Asia-Europe Partnership

Phnom Penh: The President of the National Assembly of Cambodia and Co-chair of the Eleventh Asia-Europe Partnership Parliamentary Meeting, Heng Samrin, has made a final speech at the closing ceremony held this Tuesday evening in a video conference.

Heng Samrin has expressed gratitude to all delegates and participants of the meeting, taking the opportunity to thank the Heads of Delegation that spoke during the meeting on subjects such as Asia-Europe partnerships to promote multilateralism between the regions in order to maintain global peace and stability.

He has also expressed satisfaction for the Asia-Europe nations that are continuing to support the UN agenda as well as strengthening diplomacy to address global issues, such as technological competition, climate change and natural resources security. Gender equality and joint efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic were also other topics discussed.

The President of the Cambodian National Assembly has affirmed that the meeting counterparts have agreed to support an inclusive and stronger socio-economic recovery to cope with the pandemic and other unexpected issues in the future. He has added that one of the top priorities for Asia-Europe nations is to ensure everyone is fully vaccinated with a Covid-19 vaccine.

The meeting has also resulted in a commitment to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, with Heng Samrin encouraging all ASEP to put more effort and consider adapting laws and policies that effectively implements a balanced development and reduces economic gaps between countries within the regions.

He has additionally appreciated the ASEP Declaration Committee for their active roles since the beginning of the meeting by facilitating, discussing and consulting ideas with all the country members until a draft resolution was agreed and unanimously adopted by the 2nd plenary session.

The ASEP11 is the only key outcome document to be presented to leaders at the upcoming 13th Asia-Europe Summit, which will be held on November 25-26, during which the special messages of citizens from both regions will be taken into consideration for further discussion and subsequent implementation.

The President of the National Assembly has spoken in behalf of all Cambodian Parliament, expressing thanks to the European Parliament for assigning the Director General of External Policy of the European Parliament, Niccolo Rinaldi, to help the organize ASEP 11.

Heng Samrin has closed the 11th Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership meeting expressing gratitude to all ASEP members for a successful meeting with fruitful outcomes, wishing them all good health and success.
